See who hates spam!

Thank you for visiting the Deadbeats' Hall of Lame. We'd enjoy it if you would add to your anti-spam sentiments to this page
Thanks for the site... with sites like this I have been able to reduce my spam by about 95%. I will be devoting more time to this issue eventually.

As a sysadm for almost 21 years (October is the anniversary) I appreciate the continued fight against spam. I've been a member of the UseNet community for as long as I've been using computers (almost - computers were around long before UseNet). Keep up the good work (and send kill commands - you know who you are - whenever possible to keep the net spam free).

Who do I bill? So many morons, so little time.

BENCHMARK PRINT SUPPLY

Boy, these guys pissed me off. I can see WHY y'all are so mad at them too. Nice to see that YOU have taken the time to attack them. I've been calling them all morning. When I asked for a FAX number, they just hung up on me.

Assholes!

I don't know how you find the time to do it all, but I'm sure glad you do! Keep up the good work! I have taken the "call me and be billed" approach with telemarketing scum, with some success. Hope it works with the spam slime.

Great site! I just wish I had the same technical savvy to pursue the sources of these messages as you do. Mostly spam I get ends up screened but every now and then something really pisses me off.

I got an invitation from some whore named "Cindy" to come and "check her out". A disclaimer read that this was intended for only those over 21 and that if I wished to be removed from their spam list, I could be by using the mail link. As my PC is used by my entire family, including children, I wrote to be removed and stated such. Instead of results, I got the same damned letter three more times.

An angry letter threatening action against them ended in my getting a vague apology and explantion that someone had hijacked their server. This was from someone from a url I recall being something "cum.com" (nice family site). Still, following the link on the previous e-mail led me to a page with a url that matched the apology.

How does one find the source/ISP for these elusive hucksters? Is it something someone with little network savvy can do?

Thanks again for fighting back against this crap. Now if you could just show me how to get the telemarketers off my back at dinner!

For those of us who are sick and tired of Benchmark Printer Supply, Luscious Lucy's Lovely Labia, the prospects for JT's Restaurants stock, the Best Candidate in the race for second assistant dogcatcher in Middle-Lower Slobbovia, or how little Foolish Freddie the Fourteen-year-old is going to make $53,267.91 in the next 37.4 nano-seconds selling "valuable information" to other like-minded morons, your site and its compadres are a welcome oasis in the vast desert known as the 'Net. Whether it is the dir ect, "in your face" approach shown here, or the "have a bit of sport with it - then kill it" attitude over at the HoH, a good counterbalance is provided for those who would screw over anyone (including their own mother) in order to make a quick buck (or r uble, or mark, or pound...) Keep up the good work.

I hate spam! I wanted to passively strike back at them and wrote the following program to aid me in my quest.

SpamBait (FREE) for Cold Fusion. It creates many "real" pages that spam-spiders love to follow. Each webpage contains 500 random bogus email addresses. A logfile is kept that contains the IP and browser info. If a spider is stupid enough to follow all of the pages, an optional notification email is sent to the address of your choice. The option to add a "dummy" email address is added so you can see which spammers are using the bogus email address information. All pages contain metatags that state "no follow" and "noindex".

Greetings. Another mallet-wielding anti-spammer sent me your URL. I've added a link to the Hall of Lame to my own web page. I really like your Spam Calendar -- very impressive!

I'm currently planning to redesign my own page to be database driven. After I've finished doing that with the main content, I might start logging my spam filter and kill stats to a database as well, and use it to generate some charts.

I like your site, and your comments. You've done a good job, and I applaud you.

I have just one problem with the whole thing. You're using the wrong word for unwanted commercial email. SPAM is postings to newsgroups with the purpose of flooding the news server. I hate spam. But I REALLY REALLY detest unwanted commercial email--it's t he net equivalent of telemarketing. Best of luck.

I have been receiving more and more spam mail recently. I think the government or a citzen should create a spam group that takes action and acutally makes money off of the spam mail senders. They could let people send the spam mail they received then t hey could find out who they are and get the $500 in a court of law. It would serve both parties, the people who are spammed and the people who are catching the spammers.

Just an idea

Thank you. If these jerks would just ask if they may use your email address or remove it from their lists when requested, things would be far less of a problem. So now it's war. I just want to be left alone.
Personally when I get a junk mail I fire off a horrible letter to the business who thinks it is going to get a customer. Only when they realise that the hatrid generated by junk mail isn't worth it, then they will hopefully stop. There should be no need for such a site as yours and until we make it unprofitable for spammers they will continue. Spammers deserve ANYTHING i we can thing we can think of, no matter how evil. Good Luck.

Digicom is back with the same Merchant Account solicitation. The only difference between what you've posted and the notice I received is the contact phone number and the originating e-mail address. The body of the notice is identical, word for word. Here is the new info:
E-mail: lookatthis2761@mci2000.com (I tried tracking it down, but the address no longer exists, if it ever did)
Phone Number: 1-800-600-0343 Sales Ext. 2706

I'm very thankful I found your site first before wasting my time grilling them with questions. This is the business that I am in (transaction processing) and I was very skeptical of the volume of sales pitches, undocumented stats, and lack of contact nam es or even a company name. It just looked bogus, and, sure enough, it is. Thanks.

Nice site, wish there was more though. I hate spam. One type especially - the "according to some American law this is legal you know" type, Im not American, and I dont care - if I want their opinion - Ill ask for it. I subscribe to lists and get many a dverts, with nice "Postmaster Direct Mailing - This is not spam" logos at the top - thats the way it should be. I know I can get rid of them if they annoy, but they are always going to be of a higher quality than the usual spam nonsense. I maybe want to m ake a million, but Ill type that phrase into a search engine if I do - dont harass me with it 10 times a day. :) Anti-Spam section being added to my own site soon.

This is a good website - all spammers should be stopped. I utterly hate
spam and agree with your hard line tactics, because only they work.

The best "kill" we've had round here is when somebody hacked the local
University's mail server and sent a porno spam off it to 100,000 people. We tracked him down, he was fined 2000 quid and had his computer smashed up by the police. A note to spammers - this could happen to you.

Spammers are thieves, they steal other computer's services and use them
for their baddly written rubbish.

Spammers are vandals, they don't care about what damage they cause, or
probably even realise it. We should get them all jobs rebuilding mail
servers whose hard drives have fallen over dead due to spam overload.

Spammers are xenophobes - almost every spam automatically assumes I live
in the US, have US funds and a US credit card. Being a UK citizen, I'm
unlikely to ever had any of these. Spam insults me the most this way.

Spammers use broken English, poor spelling and grammer, and hideous HTML
to insult my intelligence.

Kill them all.

I set up a webmail account with her from my provider. She doesn't even know how to retrieve her mail yet. Much less ask for spam. LOL
F.Y.I. my copy of the spam down in the "quotes from successful people" gives the price at 100$ more and at the bottom there is a 1-500 number to get yourself removed... at 20 cents a minute. I definately like your $500 dollar charge idea. It would suit these spamming bastards well.

My server was used as a relay this weekend for an enormous amount of spam. As you know, the worst part of being relayed off of is the endless amount of returned emails from bad addresses the spammers sent
to. These particular spammers seemed to be dumber than most, in that, they sent all of the messages from the same bogus email account (jobaldi@ibm.net). This gave me a weapon (which I will explain in a bit).
Going through the letter, I found the only piece of traceable info to be a fax number(530-895-8470) for people to submit their orders. They also included a fake company name (cyberdata). Below are the steps I
took in tracking the morons...

1. Called the fax number. It turned out to be an answering service with the option to fax. So I left an ominous message of things to come.

2. Found a free online faxing service and faxed them their own spam about 53 times.

3. Cut the fax number from the message and searched it on yahoo.

4. Search came up with a page by Studio42, who had tracked a spammer with this fax number in feb. of '98.

5. Took the phone info from the Studio42 page and gave it a ring.

6. A woman answered the phone saying "Cycledata.com incorporated..." (Bad move on her part.) I again left a message with my name and phone number (with faith that it was an absolute waste of breath.)

7. Did a Whois on the domain cycledata.com. The following info was displayed...

Registrant:
CycleData.com (CLASSIC-DATA2-DOM)
P.O. Box 4191
Chico, CA 95927
US

Domain Name: CLASSIC-DATA.COM

Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Zone Contact:
Scott, Richard (RS25303) action98@PACBELL.NET
(530) 571-1680 (FAX) (530) 895-8470
Billing Contact:
Scott, Richard (RS25303) action98@PACBELL.NET
(530) 571-1680 (FAX) (530) 895-8470

Record last updated on 06-Jul-99.
Record created on 06-Jul-99.
Database last updated on 1-Oct-99 04:57:33 EDT.

Domain servers in listed order:

NS1.AGIS.NET???205.137.48.5
NS3.AGIS.NET???205.137.48.7

How about that! Recognize the fax number?

8. Took the registrant's email plus the main website email and created an auto forward in my mail server. This caused all the returned mail I had been receiving at the bogus "jobaldi@ibm.net" address to be
redirected to their personal boxes. Thousands of returned emails an hour!

9. About 2 and a half hours later I received a call from a "Mr. Fred Wilson" (bogus too, no doubt). He proceeded to demand, in a desperate tone, my server IP's. After which he said, with a quiver in his voice,
"You'll never be tormented again."

I really am not the type to write people about these kind of things, but, I just wanted to extend my gratitude to Studio42 for their help. I imagine it's instances like these that gave you reason for posting the page I
used. Thanks!

Keep up the endless work.

Webmaster: Thank you for the site!!

"Big Al" (99 deadbeats 08) has been sending me spam for at least the last 6 months, to all my emails. I didn't do news postings, list posting, or etc - I suspect they get emails from web page spidering.

Anyways, Al Schweitzer (spelling unsure) represents himself as Judgement Aquisitions & Recovery, Inc. 888.309.5852. While the 888 was live for the last 6 months at least, I notice this week it just says "Al Schweitzer's mailbox is full".

Perhaps many calls have made him drop the toll-free number. He's called me back before and made veiled threats, one of which he was dumb enough to leave on my machine.

Let's hear it for all anti-spammers! Hurray!!

My idea: why don't some of those talented hackers out there help out by nuking the websites of the worst spammers?

Tom Saylor (info: http://howardk.moonfall.com/saylorfaq.html) is perhaps *the* major Usenet spammer, and runs many porn sites.

Steve Repsis (info: http://www.rahul.net/falk/Rep/) is the notorious "pheromones" spammer and the other major Usenet spammer, and also runs many sites.

Personally, I think attacks on these jerk's sites (until they stop filling Usenet with spam) is a better idea than hassling eToys or trying to jam Echelon....

I like your site, but you are too subtle regarding spam and the vermin that send it. Try not to repress it so much..... Say what you really mean. Don't hold it back next time.

I thought I had spam bad but I don't get threating phone calls. I hate spam to but what is worse is @home and AOL. Seems they don't care about spamming at all.

Mindspring has completly lost my respect. I dont use their products but I complained to postmaster@mindspring.com over a spam from a mindspring account. Ever since then I have had an auto reply from that account every 15 minutes. I sent to other mindspring helpa ccounts and have gotten no response. On top of that, I still get the automated message. Way to go mindspring.

I appreciate your specific listings and traces of each. They have helped me determine that I have been doing the same, relatively correctly. Just as in this message, I recently used a fake name/ISP in my addy to report the second spam in two days to UU.NET. Thier (UU.NET) response was only to file a complaint against ME, to my ISP. My ISP (silverlink.net) called me, threatening to close my account. Seems they use UU.NET upstream ! Dooh!

Thank you for standing up to the spammer creeps. I get 5-6 junk mails a day, sometimes more, and nothing I do seems to stop it. It just gets worse. Good luck in your fight. I hate these creeps too!!!!

thanks for this page and all the time you have put into it and to working on the spam problem.
i wish that somebody had done this for TV and radio many years ago, maybe there wouldn't be so many stupid programs on that are just there to fill in the time between comercials.

on a related topic, spam advertising that is, i wonder just how much of the internets clogged up bandwidth is being consumed by this crap?

is it posible that if there weren't so many advertisements be carried around in little data packets that we wouldn't have so much lag?

just look at how long it takes the graphics to load for the web page comercials that are loaded in almost every web site you go to anymore.

and i notice that if i walk away from the computer for a moment while browsing some of these pages that if i get distracted and don't come back and log off my internet connection, the damnd html code for the web page has a script in it that send out a request from my machine every few minutes for a new comercial to be sent, and so the modem will stay connected all weekend if i leave it with that web page up accidently.

i suppose i could turn off java scripts, but [and i guess i'm showing my lack of good taste here] i actualy like some of the gee gaws and gimwracks that people do with java, and i want to leave it on without the spammers takeing advantage of me.
then again, maybe it is just part of the price i pay for likeing creative java scripting.

please tell me i'm NOT alone in wishing they weren't clogging up my/our internet with comercials the way TV and radio got trashed out years ago?

and i guess i'll put in my email address so that anyone can send comments on my rant.

i think i'll try looking at the anti-spam web board, too.

I am impressed---keep it going. Got to rid the net of these scum. I dont know how you can do this by yourself. I would be scared shitless if I got a legal threat. I dont CC the spammer when complaining to their ISP or to the relay they raped and I respect people who can put it in their face.
