Thank you for visiting the Deadbeats' Hall of Lame. We'd enjoy it if you would add to your anti-spam sentiments to this page
I have but one thing to say to all you spammers out there... crontab processes and core files!

Hi there, I really appreciate the effort you've put into anti-spamming. I looked around and found that the place I've been getting most of my spam from has it's own special section. Of course I'm speaking of Cyber Promotions. I wondered if you have seen the latest from them....
snip
It is our position that the Internet is an open marketplace, where
commerce of any and all kinds may take place in accordance with public
demand. We do not believe censorship is the responsibility of an Internet
service provider. It is not our place to censor customers' content or
legitimate business practices. Messages originating from customer sites
reflect the opinions of our customers and not necessarily those of
Cyber Promotions.
snip
and the following is at the beginning of those messages.
X-1: The mail you received from this server did not originate from
X-2: Cyber Promotions. This server only relays mail from other sources.
X-3: To report abuse, please send email to abuse@cyberpromo.com
X-4: The easiest way to remove yourself from a mailing list is to
X-5: hit reply and type "remove" in the subject field or message body.
X-6: The mail from this server does not correspond in any way to
X-7: Cyber Promotions' send and remove lists. If you want to filter
X-8: unsolicited commercial email, you may wish to check out e-Filter.
X-9: Details are available at http://www.cyberpromo.com
Of course the remove just begets more spam. What gall though, on the one hand they promote these spammers to use their system to send out the spam, and on the other, they promote their own anti-spamming software. It's no different than having an exterminator plant bugs in your home, and then offer to get rid of them... for a fee.
Got any ideas on how to stop this scam?
Keep up the great work, Kevin

Mr. Administrator,
When hearing all the controversy over SPAM, I naturally assumed that it stood for " Scatophagous , Putrid , Analretentive Mailings. Perhaps I'm incorrect, but I think all these people wallow in excrement.

Thanks for taking the time, to teach us how to fight back... I run a home based biz...w/fax and email..critical to our success... We receive 400-750 emails/faxes from suppliers and customers we want to communicate with...We also receive 150 -300 crap email/ a week... That number was growing too, until we began to learn , the laws, and techniques, from people like yourselves...The number is being cut back... But the market for spam increases, as do the new offenders....Nice job... Considered yourselves bookmarked.Someone wrote some freeware called Spamhate.. Weve been using it in the last month... and it gave us a great basic text to customize, for fax offenses... Which are even more irritating to us, than email...( Thank you email filters)...Good Luck!Jeff

I just got pissed on the golfball man and decided to fax him. Went to altavista and found your page with a search "golfballs"

You need some kind of search engine on this site so that it would be easier to find the bastard one is looking for.

Great job anyway. Thanks

This Spamming is quite annoying. I got a wonderful one from cpa1@savetrees.com telling how much I could save on my gasoline costs. Thank you for your tips on informing them how much it will cost to process their unsolicited email.

P.S. has anyone seen the mail order "Russian Bride" spam?
Dale <zachary@imt.net>
-

I would like to ask you a question. Unsolicited mail through the U.S. Postal Service has been a way of doing business for millions of companies. When faxes came out it happened there too. Then came Web Pages. I'm sure you have utilized one of these mediums to market your services in the past. Now, major corporations, including Wall Street brokerage houses are looking at doing exactly what I have started doing by individually marketing to people via there e-mail addresses. Isn't this just another example of free enterprise at work ? Isn't the utilization of all marketing mediums what drives a free market economy ?

I'm not asking you this to upset you. You are obviously intelligent and I REALLY want to know what you think.

Sincerely,

Forrest

Hey "moreinfo@savetrees.com":
I am currently using my web domain to promote my services. What makes me legitimate and you a hated person is the simple fact that I don't impose myself into other people's mail boxes. I present the information, and should people want to find out about th e type of services I offer, they can get the information in an efficient manner. The users do so of their own free will.
You, the spammer, on the other hand, decided to mass-email a ton of people, IMPOSING your garbage(and let's face it, it is garbage) upon innocent users' mailboxes.
There are laws against junk faxes. There are laws that allow people to block junk mail. Why should my email be different?

I don't have time to waste on a useless spammer from a spam domain. This is an ANTI-SPAM and spam-free site, and any and all spam will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Get the picture: your kind are not wanted here.

Before you leave here, remember the following:

  • We did not ask to be signed up for your mailing lists
  • We did not sign up for your mailing lists
  • You ignore remove requests and continually invade our privacy
  • Many of the things coming from your domain are ILLEGAL
  • You and your domain do not process remove requests
  • I have collected from spammers. I just immediately turn the matters over to the DA and a collection agency.

Why don't you try approaching this from OUR perspective for a change. Pull your head out of your ass for a few seconds and THINK:
I clearly state I don't like spam. I also clearly state the penalties for sending spam. Despite that, you still want to whine your case here. Are you really that out of touch with reality? I find it hard to believe that someone so clueless can live so lon g.

Now, see how my marketing works:
You were looking for spam, or anti-spam on a search engine or word of mouth. You took the time out of your waste of a life to find more information on these topics. See, you came to me.
    On the flip side:
I have done ZERO publicity regarding my anti-spam section of my domain. I do warn spammers of their awarding of lifetime membership in my "Deadbeat's Hall of Lame", but other than that, NOTHING. Could you imagine if I went through news groups and snagged email addresses from headers to make a mass-mailing claiming my "careful marketing research shows that you might be interested in this subject" while I take any and every email address I come across to make this mailing list?

Do the world a favor: get off the internet. Your kind are not welcome.

Just a word of caution. The makers of SPAM (the meat product) have been rumored to be cracking down on negative use of their logo relative to spam (the incidious unwanted use of e-mail).

    -
The logo I am using is just fine as-is, since I also hate Spam, the meat-like product. Seeing as how Hormel doesn't try and force this product down my throat, I can at least respect Spam, the meat-like substance, and Hormel.

Hi- Just wanted to say thanks for HATING this waste of electrons as much as I do.
Keep up the good work. I remember when we would get junk faxes in my old office, all we had to do was use the fax machine as a copier, make about five pages worth of whatever some idiot had sent us and we would make a loop of the fax and send it to him. J ust feed the top of the long sheet in, let it feed in far enough to grab and scotch tape the ends together. Dial the idiot back and hit the START button once you get answer tone. His paper would run out in about 15 minutes, PLUS you tie up his line. If th ey have an 800 FAX number --- it zaps them twice! Once when you run them out of paper, again when they get the phone bill. If they are really mad and call you back, offer to sell them whatever they were pushing at a "professional" discount! Drives 'em nut s.
    Thanks again,
    Randy

I used to be patient; No More. Though most end-users aren't familiar with such things as the InterNic database, "digging" and the like... those of us that are should use our knowledge. Here's my favorite:
If I get spam, I look at the headers (including pass-through/by nets). Goto InterNic, get a list of admin email addresses -- add this list to my own little email list -- then continue forwarding all spam to said list. Amazing how quickly people will " manually" remove me from their list. I'll try to remember and remove them from mine. When I have the time.
SPAM SUCKS AND I DO NOT TOLERATE IT! ZER0 TOLERANCE.
btw.. Studio42 -- THANKS for your awesome resource site!!!!!!!

    Hello again.
Since we first wrote you about a month ago, your site has become more timely. In the past few weeks we have recieved over 100 unsolicited emails, more than half from the same few offenders.
    Yucch!
This debauches the whole internet experiance. There ought to be a law.
Really appreciate the domain name list, and look forward to an "offenders" list to put in our filters.

Outstanding! Yours was the first site I hit after getting spammed by CyberPromo.com. It was a real pleasure to see that my disdain for losers like them was not unjustified. It appears that you've done your homework. Any chance you'd create a page or tw o outlining the legal recourse you've applied? Maybe a mini legal guide for spam-haters might result. I know I'd use it. Wouldn't it be lovely to file a class action suit against some of these guys?
Keep up the good work - yes, I've bookmarked your site and will encourage visitors whenever possible.

Go to http://www.compulink.co.uk/~net-services/spam to download an anti-spam program. Press one button and the spammer is reported to all the address you mention in your page and some of the flame options are rather humorous such as:
    To Repent, You Must:

[ ] Give up your AOL/Euronet/MSN/Planet Internet account
[ ] Bust up your modem with a hammer and eat it
[ ] Jump into a bathtub while holding your monitor
[ ] Actually post something relevant
    [ ] Read the f****** FAQ
    [ ] Be Pat Buchanan's love slave
[ ] Be the guest of honor in alt.flame for a month
[ ] Stop sending me email.
[ ] Apologize to everybody in this newsgroup
    [ ] Post your tests to alt.test/misc.test

In Closing, I'd Like to Say:

    [ ] Blow me
    [ ] Bite me
    [ ] Get a life
    [ ] Never post again
    [ ] I pity your dog
    [ ] Go to hell
    [ ] I think your IQ must be 7
    [ ] Take your s*** somewhere else
[ ] Learn to post or f*** off
[ ] Do us all a favor and jump into some industrial equipment
[ ] See how far your tongue will fit into the electric outlet
    [X] All of the above

And go to http://www.compulink.co.uk/~net-services/ to see how to fax over the internet for free, I've used all this stuff and it works very well and terifies some would be spamers when you tell them they have violated US Code Title 47 Sec. 227 punishible by a $500 fine.

    Hey -

Along the line of fun with spammers toll-free numbers...

I just signed up Sanford to about 500 magazine subscriptions. A few years ago, I would have had to go to the public library and pull a bunch of the subscription cards and fill them out (you know, the ones that say "bill me later"). Now, with the power of the Internet, I can subscribe him to almost any magazine, catalog, mailing list, email newsletter at will!

I even got him a Publisher's Clearing House mailing and a Radio Shack catalog!

I found a page on Prodigy that had about 300 mailing lists. I subscribed him to about 200 of them.

Sometimes I would use wallace@cyberpromo.com, but most of the time I have been using noc@agis.net, the Network Operations Center email address at Agis.Net, Sanford's ISP. Since they condone his obviously inappropriate behavior, I think they deserve a slice.

I also discovered there are numerous pages on the Internet that are nothing more than giant repositories for various mail-order catalogs. The convenience of this is phenominal!! You can subscribe Sanford to 50 catalogs without having to sift through needless search engine output.
    Adios...

Thanks for putting this together. I was beginning to wonder what I had done to deserve the scourge of cyberpromo, savetrees etc. recently. They even say no more mail will be sent so don't worry, but it still keeps coming. Now I find I am not alone and I feel better.

    Cheers.

Representive Chris Smith (R-4th Dist NJ) unveiled legislation to make it illegal to send unsolicited eletronic mail. He is being challenged by Sanford Wallace of Cyber Promotions who was put out of business with the 1991 law against unsolicited Fax.

"I've been violated" I was "SPAM'ed twice in not that many days. I am sorry I did not know what spam was. So here I am, thank you for the education. Being 50 (years old that is) I was part of the anti-everything in the 60's. So I have a done that and been there attitude. I have been in Direct Mail advertising for over 32 years (thats junk mail to you'll) The Billions of bulk-mail letters are why the first class rates are some of the lowest and (yes surprising as it may seem) the most efficient i n the world. I don't like seen "Spam" and "Direct Mail" being put in the same basket. What does spamming do for the INTERNET as a whole?? Not much I can see . . . . . . I read most of the post and can see that the posters for the most part feel the same w ay you do. I concure with two exceptions. Two wrongs do not make a right (some of the things advocated are illegal and at best unethical) and some of your language seems a bit crude for someone of of your seeming intelligence. Thank you for your time and expence. Paul

We host an unmoderated newsgroup called alt.3d.rhino. It is for support of modeling package we write. SPAM in this site is a problem. My big complaint is with SPAMMERS that use bogus reply to addresses in their postings. If they use a real return a ddress I can at least reply to them requesting that they not post anymore SPAM. Is there a utility/process/daemon we can run to validate the reply to addresses on newsgroup messages? The assumption is if we sent a post acknowledgement and it was returned as undeliverable, then dump the newsgroup post. If the acknowledgment didn't c ome back within a determined time period, assume the post to be valid and send it through. I know this wouldn't stop all the SPAM but it would help a lot.

I just got one from LS publications which seems to be affiliated with cyberpromo.com. The contact info for LS I got off InterNic looks like this:

    LS Enterprises (FREEPROMO-DOM)
       PO Box 1087
       Branford, CT 06405
       USA

       Domain Name: FREEPROMO.COM

       Administrative Contact:
          Salatto, Louie (LS2501) lrs@LRSPUBLICATIONS.COM
          203-483-8634 (FAX) 203-483-8634
       Technical Contact, Zone Contact:
          Wallace, Sanford (SW1708) domreg@CYBERPROMO.COM
          215-628-9780
       Billing Contact:
          Salatto, Louie (LS2501) lrs@LRSPUBLICATIONS.COM
          203-483-8634 (FAX) 203-483-8634

But I checked ProCD and got the following number for Louie Salatto: 203-483-6630. I left a message explaining my extreme displeasure with spam and I'll definitely call him back on Sunday when I'm at work again. But in the meantime, I thought you might kno w a good place to post his number in case people want to complain to him should they get a spam from LS or freepromo.com.

It's gotta stop some day, doesn't it?????

The "savetrees" guy posted a valid question when he asked what was wrong with spam. It's "obvious" to us, but has anybody ever written an article about it, so potential spam users can see just why they're making themselves look bad?

Let's start with an easy one:

Why is spam worse than informercials? Both are unwanted and take up public space (frequency space or bandwidth).

    How about this one:

What's worse: spam or a knock on the door from Jehovah's Witnesses?

Are the Witnesses breaking a law? (I don't think so.)

Incidentally, Witnesses are told to ignore signs saying "No Jehovah's Witnesses". I saw one of their articles, which said that they should ring anyway, in case the person has moved (and didn't take the sign) or has changed his or her mind! (I swear this is true... I wish I had the reference.)

    Another easy one:

How is spam worse than junk mail? (Answer: junk mail can be stopped; there's a standard procedure for this.)

P.S. The actual luncheon meat "Spam" (capital "S") is delicious. I hope they don't get too upset by all this talk of lower-case spam.

Finally a web site that deals with spammers who are the get rich quick types. Your web site is very informative and even entertaining. How long you been here? I have bookmarked your site for future visits.

Sounds like I could make alot of money off of spammers. How do you deal with people who don't respond to a bill you sent to them? Do you have a reputable collections agency that can coerce a spammer to give them their address and full name? I would thi nk that would be a bit difficult (I mean to actually see the money arrive in your mailbox after you demand it). Have you really succeeded in this spam-busting technique?

Look forward to hearing from you.
